Authorities are searching for the driver who hit and killed an elderly woman in Rosemead. Authorities say the accident happened around 6:20 p.m. Sunday at Marshall Street and Greendale Avenue. Authorities say the gray SUV was heading westbound on Marshall Street when it hit the elderly woman, who was believed to be crossing the street at the time. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. One witness, who did not want to go on camera, said it all happened so fast that he wasn't able to get a good look at the driver. Authorities say they have very little information to go on at this time. The car has only been described as a gray SUV. Authorities suspect the car likely has front-end damage to the driver's side grill area. The SUV reportedly did not have its headlights on when it struck the woman. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. Story provided by: ABC7 News

Two men were hospitalized after the plane they were traveling in struck a building and crashed in Pacoima Sunday.  Los Angeles firefighters responded to the 10350 block of North San Fernando Road around 1 p.m. following reports of a small plane down.  Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, says a single-engine Cessna 172 was inbound to Whiteman Airport when the pilot decided to execute a missed approach and come around for another landing attempt. During the landing approach, Gregor says, the plane struck a building and crashed into a used car lot. Officials say two male adults in their 30s had self-extricated themselves from the aircraft. Both were transported to a local hospital via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Story provided by: ABC7 News

A man was hospitalized Friday after he drove his car over a cliff and it landed in the ocean off Palos Verdes. The 19-year-old Los Angeles man survived a 300-foot plunge off a Palos Verdes Estates cliff early Friday told officers he was trying to kill himself, police said. The driver, who was not identified, was hospitalized in serious condition. Police responded at 1:52 a.m. to a report of a vehicle over a cliff in the 1300 block of Paseo del Mar. The vehicle, a 2000 Mitsubishi, was at the bottom at the water’s edge, about 300 feet down. Officers could hear the man calling for help. Los Angeles County firefighters joined the rescue effort, removing the man from the car, hoisting him to a helicopter and flying him to County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center near Torrance. Police said the evidence at the scene and the man’s own statements indicated he was trying to commit suicide. A witness said the young man stopped his car at the cliff’s edge and sat for a while. Then he pushed the gas pedal and the car went over, Palos Verdes Estates police Sgt. Luke Hellinga said. Police also found tire tracks and fluid where the car had stood. The man also spoke to officers after his rescue. Story provided by: Daily Breeze

A white Houston-area man was arrested Thursday on federal hate crimes charges for allegedly shooting video of himself sucker-punching a 79-year-old black man in a "knockout game"-style attack. Conrad Alvin Barrett, 27, made a brief appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Frances Stacy, who scheduled a detention hearing for the Katy man on Friday. According to prosecutors, the attack happened Nov. 24 in Katy, but it wasn't until 12 days later that authorities connected the attack to the cellphone video of it. Authorities learned of the case because Barrett allegedly showed the video on the night of the attack to an off-duty arson investigator he had just met at a restaurant in nearby Folshear. According to the criminal complaint, Barrett asked the off-duty investigator and the woman with the investigator if they knew about the knockout game. He told them he played earlier that day, then showed them the video, prosecutors allege. The investigator then flagged down a uniformed officer across the street and led him to Barrett. The attack video doesn't show Barrett's face, but investigators matched his voice to the voice in the video and the couple at the restaurant told investigators that Barrett was wearing the same shorts and shoes at the person who shot the video. Pregnant 17-year-old Eva Casara of Chicago had her whole life ahead of her. She had a child on the way, and most people knew her as a sweet girl, full of life. Sadly, her life was cut short by someone she thought she could trust. Casara was shot in the back of her head on Christmas day by her 16-year-old boyfriend and his two brothers in a drug deal gone bad. Casara was with her boyfriend, Anthony Lee, his brother, Dainte Coakely and another unnamed brother as they were meeting up with someone for a drug deal/robbery at 152nd and Dorchester in Dolton, Ill. Detectives say that Casara and her boyfriend’s brother, Coakley, were in the car prior to an argument that erupted between her boyfriend and the individual they met up with and were trying to rob. Coakley left Casara in the car to involve himself in the melee, and somehow, Casara wound up in the car of the individual the brothers were targeting. All of a sudden things went awry and Coakley tried to open the individual’s car door on the driver’s side. The driver pulled off and while doing so, both Coakely and Lee opened fire, either not realizing or not caring that Casara was in the backseat of the car they were firing at. The driver spotted the wounded Casara in his backseat after hearing “gurgling sounds.” A bullet had hit her in the back of the head. Once he made the discovery, he dumped her body near an apartment building complex nearby; she would eventually be on the ground, in the cold, for 40 minutes before someone saw her and EMTs were called to the scene. Investigators believe that she was not the intended target of the shooting, but was accidentally shot. Chicago’s Police Chief John Franklin says that Casara was “in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong company.”  Lee and Coakley are being held without bail and have been arraigned on first-degree murder charges. The police are still looking for their other brother who was also a part of the shooting. Miraculously, Casara and Lee’s baby girl survived the ordeal. She was delivered prematurely and is in critical condition. Casara’s family plan to name the baby Lailani Paris Casara. Story provided by: Madame Noire
